- Academies build relationships – A central goal of every GCCSchools teacher is to develop and nurture meaningful relationships with every student. Freshman Academy was formed to create a personalized environment in which students feel safe and comfortable.
- Academies create relevance – Freshman Academy teachers who teacher the same content (English, Math, and Science) meet weekly to develop and revise relevant curriculum. Teachers collaborate to create lessons that engage and challenge each student.
- Academies foster rigor – Collectively, content-specific teachers develop curriculum and determine the pace at which students work. Teachers assess their students regularly, therefore they are able to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of each student in class. When students are struggling, teachers work together to reteach critical content skills and provide additional supplemental materials, as needed. Likewise students who have mastered skills are challenged with enrichment.
